Frontex Quarterly Report

The Frontex Risk Analyis Network Report for the fourth quarter of 2015 about illegal border crossings into the European Union in the framework of the ongoing Refugee-Crisis has been recently published.

Notwithstanding the current lockdown of the Western Balkan Route the indicator of detections of illegal border-crossings between BCPs reached its highest level since the data exchange under the Frontex Risk Analysis Network in 2007. It is also the first time that the total number reported under this indicator has increased between a third and a fourth quarter of 2015.

As the Eastern Mediterranean route currently ends for most of the migrants in camps like Idomeni due to restrictive entry policy of the EU-Balkan countries the establishment of alternative routes to Central Europe is more likely within the near future, as been seen today by the attempt of a few hundred migrants try to bypass the fence of the Macedonian border.
